Metrostav DIZ Builders Completing New Station for Prague Ambulances in Holešovice

8. 8. 2024

Prague residents will soon see a new Prague City Ambulance station, which has been built on the premises of the fire station in Argentinská ulice in Prague 7. The modern two-storey building for medical staff, which also includes offices, store rooms, day and night rooms, changing rooms and hygiene and operational facilities, is technically timeless and literally interwoven with electronics. There are climate-controlled garage spaces for eight ambulances.

“Although it is not apparent at first glance, during construction we installed nearly 18 km of heavy- and low-current cable routes in the low ceilings, which not only ensure the operation of the building itself, but also enable the functioning of specific communication systems as a part of the integrated emergency system (IES),” said project manager Ondřej Vojtíšek from Metrostav DIZ of one of the project’s specifics. The designers also thought about the environmental dimension, so part of the terrace is designed as an extensive area with green plants.

“Two things that were especially complicated were the way to supply the building and the lack of space around it. These are the main difficulties we have traditionally faced with buildings located in the centre of Prague. In this respect, the cooperation with the firefighters was excellent. They rented us an area for facilities and building materials, which was absolutely essential,” added Vojtíšek.

The ambulance base, which is part of the fire station in Holešovice, should enable not only better coordination, but also speed up the dispatch of all IES units, which in the future will be appreciated not only by residents of the nearby area. This plan was discussed based on a memorandum of understanding for building joint on-call bases, and the ambulance station was incorporated into the plan when the new fire station area was designed. Construction work started in April last year and the builders will hand it over to the Prague City Hall during the holidays.
