Builders in Jihlava Proved an Industrial Hall Can be Built Even in a “Swamp”

17. 5. 2024

At first glance, the new production and warehouse facilities of the hydraulics supplier HANSA-FLEX in Jihlava do not differ from usual industrial infrastructure. The extremely complicated foundations are perhaps only revealed by the fact that the nearby pond lies just above the level of the local terrain. Builders at Metrostav DIZ are currently completing the contract and should hand over the keys to the investor at the end of the summer. However, the experience of the battle with the unusually challenging rock environment remains in their minds to this day.

“When we removed a huge volume of ballast in the form of concrete recyclate or pavers from the area, we found that we would be laying the foundations in pond earth. These are very non-standard conditions, and that is why we first had specialists from the Technical University of Ostrava prepare an expert opinion,” recalled Ing. Vojtěch Pola, project manager at Metrostav DIZ. “The analysis, which lasted about a month, showed that it was necessary to doubly stabilise the terrain using a special cutter. In other words, if you do not have terrain that is already suitable, you have to make it suitable. We dealt with something similar during the recent construction of a police polygon in Komárovice near Jihlava.”

The requirements for the stability of the foundations also result from the investor’s requirement for the floor’s load-bearing capacity. Vehicles will enter selected parts of the hall. After the successful laying of the foundations, Metrostav DIZ builders built the concrete skeleton, roof and interior walling. At the current stage, they are working on the cladding and utility distribution systems, including compressed air and technological air conditioning unit, interior plastering and other interior elements. The two-storey hall covers an area of 2,500 sqm and rises to a height of over nine metres. It will include both production, storage and office space. In one part there is still space available for an external tenant.

HANSA-FLEX is a leading European supplier of hydraulic systems
and a partner for the delivery of individual hydraulic components. It operates eleven branches in the Czech Republic. In recent years, Metrostav Group has expanded its portfolio to such an extent that it is a completely universal construction company. One of the relatively new disciplines is the construction of production and storage facilities and similar industrial infrastructure.
